Continuing the work
With the first strings already submitted, I returned to translate.wordpress.org to keep building on the progress. This time I focused on a different section of the Astra theme — strings related to the transparent header settings and digital product features.
What I translated
Some of the strings in this batch were more contextual. For example, “Selling Digital Products?” became “¿Vendes productos digitales?” — a question that needed to keep its conversational tone in Spanish. Another one, “Disable-on rules updated”, became “Se han actualizado las reglas de desactivación”, where I had to think carefully about natural phrasing in Costa Rican Spanish rather than a literal translation.
What I learned
Not all strings are equal. Some are UI labels that need to be short and precise. Others are descriptions that need to sound natural. Learning to read the context of each string — where it appears in the theme, what it communicates to the user — is becoming a key part of the process.
What comes next
In the next post I’ll describe a specific challenge I encountered and how I resolved it.
